History of Grama Panchayat
Ambalavayal Grama Panchayat is situated in Wayanad, which was part of the Malabar region under the British Raj when it belonged to the Madras Presidency during British rule. Even after India attained independence, Malabar continued to remain part of Madras State. In 1956, with the reorganization of states on a linguistic basis, the Malabar region became part of the state of Kerala. At that time, Vythiri and South Wayanad Taluk were included in Kozhikode district, while Mananthavady and North Wayanad Taluk became part of Kannur district. Ambalavayal was then included in Vythiri Taluk. Later, in 1980, with the formation of Wayanad district, South Wayanad Taluk was divided into Vythiri and Sulthan Bathery Taluks, and Ambalavayal became part of Sulthan Bathery Taluk.
